U11 FAQ for Coaches & Managers

Woodland Soccer Club, 2011

Dear U11 Coaches and Managers:

Thanks for your interest in coaching!  We hope you return to coach again this next season.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1.      We hope you will be able to coach again this year.

  1. Please direct all registration-related questions to the WSC Registrars:
  2. Returning players from last Fall need to register by June 2nd to guarantee a spot on the same team.  If you contact your Registrar, they can send you a roster of who has signed up.
  3. Players can only play on one WSYSA team.  Players cannot play on both Select and Rec teams.
  4. New players ...  [Woodland registration policy]
  5. Please register in the Coaches data base for each Fall season.   Need to register once a year.
  6. Your assistants need to register, too.  Anyone who might coach practice or a game needs to be registered as a WSC coach.  Please remind them to register.
  7. Let your Registrar know what level you are planning to play.  More info below.  League is arranged in mid-July at the “All-City Seattle Registrars’ Alignment Meeting”.
  8. Players are not eligible for game play until WSC has verified their proof-of-age.  WSC will contact you in Summer about any unverified players.

Logistics:

Team size:  14 player max roster.   Games are 9 on 9.   We recommend a minimum of 12 players on a team.  Teams grow from 10 at U10 to 14 at U11.

Lots of coaching information is on the Woodland web site.   You might find the WSC Coaching Sessions helpful.  These are a complete set of coaching sessions for every age group.  WSC will reimburse you for attending coaches’ clinics.  Many of these are listed on the Coaches' Courses webpage. “E License” course comes highly recommended for U11.

WSC U10-U11 teams are responsible for the setup and takedown of the Greenlake field each week (Saturday mornings & Sunday afternoons).  Each team helps setup nets and line Greenlake fields once or twice a season.   This will require at least 3 adults.   Have your team manager recruit these people now.   A WSC Greenlake setup/work party occurs on one evening in late August.  Encourage your parents to attend.

Each U11 team is expected to provide at least one referee to the SYSA referee pool.    Please encourage your team parents, older siblings, and friends.   Referees are required to be licensed and are paid per game.  More info at  seattlerefs.org.    Training clinics are listed on the Washington State Ref's website ( http://www.wasrc.org/instruction)

What level:  Gold, Silver, or Bronze
U11 teams select whether they want to play Gold, Silver, or Bronze.
Let your Registrar know by July the level you want to play.  If we do not hear from you, we will assume silver.  Suggestions:

Thanks for coaching!
