WSC-hosted Referee Training Clinic Saturday, March 16th

Woodland Soccer Club (WSC), in collaboration with Seattle Soccer Referee Association (SSRA) and SYSA are hosting an official USSF referee training clinic Saturday, March 16th at the Meridian School and Park located in the Good Shepherd Center in Wallingford. The clinic will run from 8:30am - 5pm. Prerequisite work is required.

Details and registration links below.

Participants who pass the on-site test at the end of the day will achieve the USSF Grade 8 Referee certification and are eligible to referee recreational and competitive (e.g., Select) youth games and tournaments as a Referee and Assistant Referee earning money while doing so. Suggested age min. is 13 the of time clinic.

This is an excellent opportunity for players who have participated in the WSC Mod Referee Program and have "aged out" after their 8th grade year to grow their referee skills more formally through the official USSF program. Also, there is a significant need for adult referees across all levels of the game, so we strongly encourage adult participation as well.

WSC offers to reimburse the clinic fee ($15) for any WSC player who successfully completes the clinic and passes the exam at the end of the day. There is a $55 annual registration fee.

Registration for the clinic is at www.wareferees.org -- select the "Instruction" tab and then "Clinic & Events Schedule" and then select "Become a Referee: Never been a USSF Referee before" which will produce a list of clinics. Select the Seattle clinic on Sat. 3/16/2019 and then proceed thru the registration process.

Tips for registering and details about the program:

  • During the registration process you must create a username and password that you MUST NOT FORGET because that set of credentials will be used for all automated verification of online study.
  • There are mini-tests that must be completed during online study. If the student answers wrong they may need to redo the module. Online study will take approx. 3 hours and must be completed PRIOR to the clinic.
  • Students must finish the online study NO LATER THAN THREE DAYS before the clinic (3/12/19).
  • Families must pay the clinic fee ($15) and Annual Registration Fee ($55) when they register. Once they successfully complete the clinic they can seek reimbursement for the clinic fee from WSC. For reimbursement, please contact WSC Treasurer (Julie) (treasurer@woodlandsoccer.org)
  • SSRA Assignors will make every effort to give new referees opportunities to get on the field in a mentored environment (which is highly recommended) beginning this spring during SYSA Spring Soccer and into next fall.
  • There is an annual registration fee ($55) for all SSRA referees which includes ongoing training. These payments are the responsibility of the referee ongoing.
  • Full program reimbursement is also available for students on SPS free and reduced lunch program.
  • Referees will need to purchase (or otherwise acquire) a USSF Referee Uniform Kit (avg min costs $40).
  • Clinic will be held in the smaller south building in Meridian Park, not the larger Good Shepard Center.

Questions? If you have questions regarding the referee clinic and/or the certification process please contact SYSA-SSRA Liaison Duncan Munro (duncaninseattle@gmail.com).

There is an ongoing need for officially certified referees across youth soccer. This is an excellent program and opportunity to engage in the game at a different level while also developing leadership skills, job experience, as well as earning money. Refereeing is challenging given competitive tensions on and off the field, thus mentoring and awareness should be noted.

We hope your player will take advantage of this local opportunity to earn their certification.

Thank you,

Rob Bayuk
